What does CMYK stand for?
C = cyan, M = magenta, Y = yellow, K = black.

Why these colors?
CMYK are the four colors used in the printing process.

Want proof?
Look at the color marks on the closable top of a printed box (ie: cereal box)
There is almost always "registration marks" (colored squares, circles, or lines)
on the closable tops to show what colors are used in the printing process on the box.
And almost always there is CMYK colors; sometimes more colors as well.
